Our Mission

At Brooklyn Roots Veterinary Hospital, our mission is to offer the type of veterinary care that we expect for our own animals. We believe that practicing the highest standards of veterinary medicine and surgery requires more than just what we learned in school. We strive to listen to and consider the varied needs of our patients and families. We are committed to creating a caring environment that fosters trust, support and a team approach. We also look outside our doors, and take measures to contribute to our global community.

Rebecca Stronger, D.V.M.

Dr. Rebecca Stronger graduated from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. She has extensive experience working in Referral Center Emergency/Critical Care Medicine, as well as in General Practice. She also has a special interest and advanced training in Veterinary Anesthesia and thrives doing the kind of work that feels most like saving lives. Using mostly blood, sweat, a quick wit and maybe more than a few tears, she opened Brooklyn Roots in 2016.

Aside from her professional training, Dr. Stronger wants you to know that she was born and raised in Brooklyn and has also left the neighborhood quite a few times. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, her family and to her patients. She thinks that client education is just as important as the medicine that she practices, and will always do everything in her power to help her patients and their families in the ways that they need.

She also really really loves handstands.

Timothy Anderson D.V.M., M.S.

Dr. Timothy Anderson has been a member of the BRVH team since 2021. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 and went on to do a Rotating Internship at the Animal Medical Center in NYC, and then a Surgical Internship in Jacksonville, Florida. After an extended career in Emergency/Critical Care Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Anderson decided to make the move over to General Practice - and it looks like he is here to stay! Aside from being website shy and taking 2+ years to allow a photograph to be taken, Dr. Anderson is a true animal lover. He and his family have two cats, named Huey and Jeff. Only one of them likes to pee on the couch. Out of respect, he won’t name names.

Carmen Canton A.A.S.

Carmen Canton performs non-anesthetic dental cleanings at Brooklyn Roots. She was born and raised among her many animals in Managua, Nicaragua. At age 19, she moved to Miami, FL and quickly began to work at a nearby veterinary hospital.  Her experience there inspired her to pursue her Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology at CUNY in NYC. Having witnessed some of the risks involved with general anesthesia, her initial exposure to safe, non-anesthetic dental cleaning left her feeling both relieved and encouraged. She takes pride in being able to provide a safe, preventative health service to pets that can benefit from her care.

Lisett Lamour, L.V.T., B.S.

Lisett has been working in the animal field since she was 16 years old. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from The City College of New York and then pursued her Veterinary Technician degree soon thereafter. She has three fur babies and two human ones. Lisett’s areas of special interest include dentistry and anesthesia, but the gentle and expert nursing care of all creatures is her true forté.

Megan Lantner D.V.M.

Dr. Megan Lantner is excited to be a part of the Brooklyn Roots Veterinary Hospital team! She graduated from The University of Wisconsin College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016, and then completed a small animal rotating internship in NYC in 2017. She has since practiced in both Baltimore (her hometown) and in New York City. Her passion for caring for animals developed early on in life and she spent much of her childhood volunteering at her local animal shelter and fostering homeless cats and kittens. She is glad to be able to spend her days making a difference in animal’s lives. She has a special interest in Internal Medicine.

When not at work, she enjoys traveling, exploring the city and spending time with her husband and her cat, Buddy, a rescued kitty who happens to look like a lot like Toby.

Toby Brooklyn Roots D.S.H.

Toby, our hospital manager, has recently retired to a life of couch sitting and sometimes sparring with 2 other cats. Dr. Stronger reports regularly to him on the happenings at BRVH and he continues to advise as needed. He was educated on the streets of Brooklyn and always ruled Brooklyn Roots with a gentle, yet firm paw.
